LetsStopAIDS is a Canadian youth-HIV charity that focuses on HIV prevention and knowledge exchange by engaging young people and fostering leadership. Since 2004, we have been creating a global network of youth-HIV leaders.
Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) Program Details
- Duration: 25 weeks (35 hours per week)
- Start Date: Immediately
- Compensation: $17.60 per hour (approximately $15,400 gross pay)
Eligibility
- Ages 18–29
- Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Refugee Status
- Unemployed and not in school
- Priority for youth living with or at risk of acquiring HIV
Responsibilities
- Design web pages, brochures, logos, signs, advertisements, and other communication materials, using computer software such as Adobe’s Creative Suite, Canva.
- Consult with team members to establish the overall look, graphic elements, and content of communications materials in order to meet expectations.
- Determine the medium best suited to produce the desired visual effect and the most appropriate vehicle for communication.
- Develop the graphic elements that meet team objectives and produce drafts for review by clients and make revisions based on the feedback received.
- Prepare sketches, layouts, and graphic elements of the subjects to be rendered using traditional tools, multimedia software and image processing, layout and design software.
- Estimate cost of materials and time to complete graphic design.
- Coordinate all aspects of production for print, audio-visual or electronic materials, such as Web sites, CDs, and interactive terminals.
- Review final productions for errors and ensure that final prints reflect client specifications.
Qualifications
- Open-minded and able to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated experience with logo creation, brand identity and a strong sense of colours (primary, secondary).
- Able to show and appreciate negative space.
- Flat Design experience or familiarity with the concept.
- Experience working cross-functionally to improve user experience (ex: design, UI), refine content, and create visuals and diagrams for support content.
- Expert knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Microsoft and Google Drive.
- Able to resize artwork using the master AI file to fit the translated text within the image.
- “Flat Art” design experience would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently, as well with other team members.
- Experience in preparing files for Digital or Print is an asset.
