Peer Education

Spread Trees, Not AIDS is a programme that engages Canadian and South African youth in peer-education and sustainable development. The programme will allow a select number of dedicated individuals to volunteer in one of LetsStopAIDS’ rural partnership organizations (RPOs) within KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Working in pairs, the volunteer ambassadors will work directly with a local organizations to provide weekly workshops for youth. Keeping within the main themes of the programme, possible topics can include HIV prevention and general health promotion, stigma, conservation, awareness, and action. The ambassadors will also be organizing activities around arts, sports, and fostering leadership skills (e.g. creating skits, organizing soccer games or community clean-ups, planting trees, etc.). Through this involvement and the opportunities for personal growth, we hope to create a network of peer educators who are capable of taking leadership roles within their communities.
