Summary

LetsStopAIDS is a Canadian youth-HIV charity that focuses on HIV prevention and knowledge exchange by engaging young people and fostering leadership. Since 2004, we have been creating a global network of youth-HIV leaders.

We are looking for the opportunity to collaborate on our annual Sex Lives Report with a talented and experienced research consultant individual or group!

The 2025 SexLivesReport will focus on chemsex and substance use among Canadian youth aged 18-24. In collaboration with Angus Reid Group, we will survey 1000+ youth, with the final report published in the fall of 2025, alongside a policy brief and promotional video.

The research consultant will lead survey design, data analysis, policy briefing, as well as collaborate with the LetsStopAIDS team on a report for a lay youth audience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a robust and inclusive survey framework in collaboration with Angus Reid Group, ensuring relevance to the study’s focus on chemsex and substance use among Canadian youth (18-24).
  • Analyze survey responses and other relevant data sources to identify key trends, insights, and implications.
  • Lead the creation of the final Sex Lives Report, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and accessibility for both academic and lay audiences.
  • Draft a concise policy brief outlining key recommendations based on research findings.
  • Work closely with LetsStopAIDS team members, external research partners, and youth advisory groups to ensure the study is youth-centered and impactful.
  • Support the promotion and dissemination of findings, including participation in discussions, webinars, or media opportunities related to the report.
  • Ensure ethical research practices, particularly regarding substance use and marginalized communities, and obtain necessary research ethics approvals if required.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in questionnaire designdata analysis, and sexual health/health policy.
  • Proven experience conducting quantitative research, particularly survey-based studies on youth, sexual health, or substance use.
  • Strong knowledge of survey methodology, statistical analysis, and data visualization. Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) and data interpretation.
  • Understanding of HIV, harm reduction, sexual health, and youth-focused public health issues, with experience in youth, sexual health, and drug use research (preferred)
  • Familiarity with policy development and advocacy related to public health.
  • Exceptional writing skills with experience drafting reports, policy briefs, and youth-friendly research summaries.
  • Ability to translate complex data into accessible and engaging content.
  • Experience working with community organizations, research institutions, or advocacy groups.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is preferred
